I wish to acknowledge that I live and work on the lands of the Wurundjeri people. I pay my respects to the Traditional Owners and their Elders and recognise their enduring connection to Country.

I am a multi-media artist who is passionate about the creative process. I regard Textile Design a form of Fine Art, whereby a blank, white textile serves as an artist's canvas. I hold a Master of Fine Art and a Bachelor of Textile Design both from RMIT.

METAMORPHOSIS

This collection explores the transformative potential of turning handcrafted patterns on cloth, using the dye-resist technique of Shibori, into innovative digital art and textile designs. The practice of Shibori requires a careful hand and eye to create. It is a slow, labour-intensive process that fosters a deep connection between the creator and the handcrafted object while sharing with computer-aided design the possibility of unexpected results.

ORIGINAL SHIBORI SAMPLING, Indigo & Cochineal on Cotton and Silk Satin

This work delves into the alchemy of transformation, from the initial concept to the outcome. The resulting textiles now embody the memory of their metamorphosis

TEXTILE DESIGN FOR PUBLIC SPACES

This collection focuses on designing rugs for hotel foyers. These rugs will be part of an interior design that sets the scene for an inviting experience on arrival. On entering the foyer, a guest will immediately feel that they have arrived at a special destination. I concentrate on choosing a colour palette to set the right mood and creating hand-generated motifs, which are then transformed into digital artwork.

KITCHEN COMPANIONS

The collection features napery products inspired by kitchen companions, specifically utensils like wooden spoons, knives, and forks. The designs are hand-rendered and, even when semi-abstract, clearly convey what the motifs represent. Hand-drawn illustrations are used to create screen prints, which are then printed on natural textiles such as linen or cotton. Additionally, digital prints are created using Photoshop and are based on photographs of hand-painted croquis.

SURFACE AND FORM

Patterns form the foundation of our visual world, and my theme revolves around adding another dimension to these patterns. By drawing inspiration from my surroundings, I create abstract designs. The creation of abstract patterns can generate optical illusions that may confuse and/or stimulate the viewer's perception.
